Check a revised PDF: what changed and whether your comments were fixed

Review round 2 in minutes by checking the changes and your comments, not re-reading the whole document.

1 min videoBeginnerLesson 4 of 7

What you’ll learn

  • Why checking a revision is a different job from the first review
  • How to read every text change in the Change List
  • How to confirm each comment was fixed, version by version

No credit card needed. Reviewers are always free.

Why is round 2 a different job?

When a new revision comes in, you’re not reading for quality any more. You’re checking two things: every change the author made, including the ones nobody asked for, and every comment you left. Miss an unrequested edit and it ships unreviewed. Re-read the whole document and you’ve done the first review twice. So work in that order: the changes first, then your comments.

Transcript

New version in. Here’s how to see what changed, and whether your comments got fixed, without opening the PDFs.

In the PDF review, click Compare versions. The older version opens on the left and the newer one on the right. The Change List shows every text change. Red is what the old version had and the new one dropped. Green is what’s new. Click a change to jump to it.

Need a different pair? Pick another version above either pane and the comparison runs again.

Each version keeps its own comments. Click one on the old version, then check the same spot on the new one. The toggle at the top brings the Change List back.

Comparison is read-only. To add feedback, click Exit comparison. Now reply on the new version so it gets fixed. The step-by-step guide is linked below.

How do I see what changed between two PDF versions?

Open the PDF in the review view and click Compare versions. The older version opens on the left and the newer one on the right. The Change List shows every text change: red is text the old version had and the new one dropped, green is new text. Click a change to jump to it.

Can I add comments while comparing versions?

No. Comparison is read-only. Click Exit comparison to go back to the review view, then reply or add comments on the new version.

Do my comments carry over to the new version?

Each version keeps its own comments. In the comparison you can open a comment on the old version and check the same spot on the new one to see whether it was fixed.

Does text comparison work for files other than PDFs?

Text change detection works on PDF files only. For other file types, see the help article on comparing document versions.
